Step 1. Install Command Line Tools

First before you begin any installation, you have to install command line tools in your macOS Monterey terminal by utilizing the command shown below;

xcode-select --install

Step 2. Install Homebrew

Homebrew is a package installer that comes with set of services and command line tools that helps in the automation and management of software processes which include, updating, installing and uninstallation. To install Homebrew, we will use the command below;

Step 3. Install Telegram Messaging App on macOS Monterey using Homebrew

Since we have successfully installed Homebrew on our macOS Monterey system, we can then proceed to use Homebrew to install Telegram Messaging App. Check below for the installation commands;

 brew install telegram

Once the installation is done, you need to set up Telegram for use. First, go to launchpad, then search for Telegram and tap on it to open. A new window will pop up, that looks like the one below;

On the image above, you have been given instructions, written as follows, you are required to follow these instructions on your phone first, then you can connect Telegram on your desktop;

  • Open Telegram on your phone: If you do not have Telegram on your phone, head to Appstore depending on the phone you are using, search for Telegram and tap on it to get it. Wait until it is fully installed then you can tap on open. You will be required to input your First and last name, then proceed to tap next. Choose your country and input your phone number. You will receive an SMS from Telegram or a call that will reveal the code to you. Input the code where you are required to, and you will be able to access Telegram.
  • Go to Settings then Devices then Link Desktop Devices, on the just opened Telegram on your phone, tap on setting(icon on the right at the bottom), then proceed to Devices (Scan QR), and then Link Desktop Device
  • On the last step, you are required to point your phone at the screen on your desktop (which has the QR Code). On the Link Desktop, the Telegram QR Code scanner will open, all you have to do is point the QR scanner towards the desktop, directly facing the QR code, like the one shown on the first image on Step 3 of this tutorial. Once you do that Telegram will automatically launch on your MacOS Monterey Desktop, like as shown below;

Step 4. Use Telegram messaging App on macOS Monterey

Once Telegram has been installed successfully, you can then proceed to utilize it on your system. Below is how Telegram can be used on your system;

When you tap on the icon on the top right of your Telegram window, you have three options to utilize, you can create a new group, then add members you want to. Begin a new secret chat with whomever you choose. Or create a new channel. However, if you want to chat with somebody directly, just tap on that person’s contact to begin the chat.

NB/ Ensure to allow Telegram to access your contacts, send you notifications, and use WLAN/mobile data.
