Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) is a protocol that allows you to connect to a remote machine over a network. It provides your device with additional functionality. Use cases of an RDP are more of individual use, like accessing your home/work computer via another computer and controlling it. This involves transferring files and managing files with ease.

Typical RDP applications include the Remote Desktop Connection for Windows, TeamViewer, Anydesk, NoMachine, RealVNC, TigerVNC, etc. Security, privacy, speed, and quality are among the concepts that determine which RDP you prefer.

You can also see the server port which is port 4000 on NX service.

You can close the window.

Configure NoMachine on Client Computer

Installing NoMachine on a client computer follows the same process as installing it on a remote computer. I will however install NoMachine on a Windows Operating system.

Download the Latest NoMachine for Windows from the Downloads page.

Open the installer which will launch the setup wizard as shown below.

Follow the Prompts to install the application, Accept the Licence agreement, and Check if the location to store files is okay then installation begins. Once done it will check for the computer configuration.

Then exit the setup.

Connect to server using Nomachine RDP

Once installed, Open the Application.

Click on Add Connection.

You may receive an authentication warning as shown below. Click Yes to continue.

Then enter your credentials. This is the account of the computer you want to connect to.

The next windows will show how to customize and use NoMachine. This includes screen resolution and how to resize the remote computer window, audio streaming, etc. You can check the ‘Don’t show this dialog anymore‘ so that it does not show up every time you connect.

After the dialogs, You can now connect to the remote computer.

Enter your credentials and you will be logged in as shown below.

And you have successfully set up a remote connection to another computer.

Conclusion

From this guide, we have gone through what an RDP is and common RDP applications. We have installed NoMachine on KDE Neon|Kubuntu and also installed it on Windows Operating System. We have set up a connection and seen how it is easy to connect to another computer from one computer.
